The auto-linker goes out and searches
postnet.com's entire database of news, sports,
lifestyle, business and entertainment stories, looking
for pieces that involve either the group that created
the Community Web Site or the work it's intimately
involved with.
When it finds such a story, it plants a link in the
right-hand column, so that (for example) any of
postnet.com's millions of monthly readers who's reading
about (say) human rights violations in central America
can click on a link to read about Webster University's
human-rights-related documentary film series, or the
Catholic Archdiocese's human rights work. It's not just
about news, either. A youth soccer article might be
linked to youth-soccer leagues in the same area, or an
article on infertility to St. Louis groups that help
infertile couples. We want to make it as easy as
possible for St. Louisans to find out more about what
they read from within this community, and to get
involved if they so desire.
Don't rest on laurels you don't yet have, though.
When a new site is created, the auto-linker is left
inactive. It's activated only when a good number of
events, postings or other information is added to your
Web pages. Keep in mind, too, that on controversial news
stories where a link to your group (but not an opposing
group) may unbalance the reporting, automatic links may
be
removed.
